Water-related research at the University of Malta is the main theme of the 20th edition of the institution’s research magazine Think.

One article deals with research work being undertaken by Prof. Aldo Drago and his team to measure short- and long-term changes in the Mediterranean Sea, which is being shared with the shipping industry, other researchers and the public to help make the sea safer for all.

Another article concerns the work Prof. Raymond Ellul and his team are conducting at Ta’ Giordan lighthouse in Għasri to measure air pollution generated by ships travelling through the Mediterranean. Ellul explains the predicaments, predictions, measurements and solutions in the hope of curbing potentially severe problems this pollution can cause.

A plan by Dr Timmy Gambin to map Malta’s rich seabed and manage as many of the submerged historic sites as possible is the topic of another article.

Think also sheds light on various other research coming out of the University. This includes articles on the philosophical conundrums researchers are delving into through games at the Institute of Digital Games, solar-powered vehicles, virtual reality, culture, art and equipment.

In an article on multilingualism in Malta, Dr Sarah Grech wonders whether this is muddying the waters of clear and complete communication, or whether this linguistic dexterity facilitates freer expression.

This 20th  edition of the magazine also features an interview with Maltese 3D-printing gurus Thought3D and other with culture guru Lisa Gwen Baldacchino.

Think may be picked up for free in newsagents and in Agenda bookstores.
