The APS Mdina Biennale – Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale will return this November under the artistic direction of Giuseppe Schembri Bonaci after an agreement was reached between APS Bank and the Mdina Cathedral Chapter.

A series of artistically-charged events, which will be running from November to January 2018, will bring the Silent City to life as most of them will take place at the historic 18th century Cathedral Museum in Mdina.

Participating artists will explore the contemporary visual culture of the Mediterranean region as it has been shaped by numerous strong and vivid historical struggles. The theme this year, chosen with the assistance of the University of Malta’s Faculty of Arts, is ‘The Mediterranean: A sea of conflicting spiritualities’.

“We are thrilled to be working with APS Bank for the second time running. Our common ethos of promoting the arts as a response to societal developments has brought us together to provide a platform for several talented artists to share their impeccable and very relevant works,” said Dr Schembri Bonaci.

“The bank is proud to be sponsoring this event which brings Malta’s significant role in shaping the Mediterranean cultural landscape to the fore. We hope the Biennale will help reinforce the thought that art is an active tool that can be used by many, not the few,” said Patrick Aquilina, marketing manager at APS Bank.
