Diouf: Former Liverpool striker El-Hadji Diouf has reopened his long-running feud with former captain Steven Gerrard after claiming the midfielder “did nothing for his country”. People like him in Liverpool, but he never did anything for his country,” he said.

Marseille: French forward Valere Germain has joined Olympique Marseille on a four-year contract from Monaco, OM said yesterday. The 27-year-old Germain, whose father Bruno played for Olympique Marseille, scored 10 goals in Ligue 1 last season, helping Monaco win the French title.

Capello: Fabio Capello’s wait for his first Chinese Super League win continues after his Jiangsu Suning side were held to a 0-0 draw by Beijing Guoan last night. The point picked up was not enough to move Jiangsu out of the relegation zone, with Capello’s team moving onto nine points from their first 14 games. Jiangsu have won just once so far in the league campaign.

Della Valle: The owners of Fiorentina have announced they are willing to listen to “concrete offers” for the Serie A outfit. The club have been owned by the Della Valle family since 2002, when they reformed and started again in the fourth tier after going bust. “The ownership is willing to receive concrete offers – of course only by those who truly love the Viola shirt and have the reliability  needed to lead a club like Fiorentina.”
