These are the leading stories in today's local newspapers.

The Times of Malta leads with Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil's pledge that the Opposition will support an imminent law introducing gay marriage. Dr Busuttil's announcement comes after rumblings of dissent from some Opposition MPs who oppose the bill.

In a secondary story, a consultant urologist makes the case for extending the main recess at school to at least one full hour.

The Malta Independent reports that owners of the Jerma Palace hotel in Marsascala are now proposing a 28-storey tower for the area, with councillors told the other option would be to have an even bigger hotel than the previous one on the site.

L-Orizzont highlights the fact that today Malta's 13th legislature will hold its maiden session, following last Saturday's opening address.

In a secondary story, the paper reports that outgoing PN leader Simon Busuttil was ready to stay on as leader had the party lost the general election by a smaller margin.

In-Nazzjon quotes Dr Busuttil, who yesterday assured PN followers that the party would continue to represent the values and principles of its voters.

The paper also says that security has been beefed up for this year's Isle of MTV concert.
