Harrop: Preston North End have signed midfielder Josh Harrop from Manchester United on a four-year contract. Harrop, 21, was the top scorer for United’s reserve team with 10 goals in 25 appearances last season and made a memorable senior debut, scoring the opener in United’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the final day of 2016-17.
Zenit: Sebastian Driussi, one of the top goalscorers in this year’s Argentine first division, is to join Zenit St Petersburg, his club River Plate said. The Russian side are to pay the 15 million-euro release clause to secure the services of a 21-year Argentine striker who grabbed 17 goals this season.
Toronto: Toronto FC strengthened their position as MLS Eastern Conference leaders with a 2-0 home victory over the New England Revolution. Defender Drew Moor was the surprise early goalscorer at BMO Field as he turned home Armando Cooper’s cross in the 11th minute. New England came close to grabbing a late equaliser only for Teal Bunbury to be denied by Alexander Bono and Sebastian Giovinco then confirmed the outcome with a stoppage-time strike.
Leyton Orient: Omer Riza has reapplied for the role of first-team manager at Leyton Orient following the relegated club’s takeover. The National League side were last week sold to a business consortium headed by Nigel Travis, a lifelong fan and chief executive of the Dunkin’ Brands Group.
