A book entitled Accounting for Financial Instruments: A Guide to Valuation and Risk Management has recently been published by Dr Emanuel Camilleri and Roxanne Camilleri.

The book is aimed at professional accountants and auditors and students alike who are interested in managing investments or studying banking and finance or wish to make a career in financial services, particularly banking and finance.

It deals with topics such as the accounting and regulatory framework associated with the acquisition and disposal of financial instruments; how to determine their value; how to manage the risk connected with them; and ultimately compile a business valuation report. The final chapter of the book deals with issues concerning money laundering.

Up to 2009 Dr Camilleri was director general (Strategy and Operations Support) at the Finance Ministry. He managed large projects related to accounting applications and public service reforms at the Inland Revenue and VAT departments in Malta.

He is currently a visiting senior lecturer at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.

Ms Camilleri is a senior auditor with global accountancy firm RSM having previously held a similar position with Grant Thornton. She has a BSc. (Hons) in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brooks University, UK, and hs completed the full ACCA programme.
