Kurt Cassar has joined the Malta U-18 and U-20 selections who are currently stepping up their preparation for the European Championships Division C tournaments which will be held next month.

The 2.08m player has enjoyed a positive season with Stella Azzurra after the Rome side managed to win a bronze medal in both the U-18 and U-20 Italian championships.

Last weekend, Cassar was part of the Stella Azzurra U-18 team that beat Reyer Venezia to secure third place in the Italian championship.

Earlier, they were beaten by eventual champions Virtus Bologna in the semi-finals.

In the U-20 Italian league, Cassar’s Stella Azzurra also finished third when they had the better of Consultinest Victoria Libertas Pesaro in the third-place play-off.

“I’m really pleased with how the season panned out this year,” Cassar said.

“I worked really hard every day during training sessions to keep myself ready to help my team throughout the season.

“This season we faced some very strong teams in both the U-18 and U-20 competitions which saw the participation of around 228 teams from all over Italy.

“But the season is not finished for me yet. Next up are the European Championships with the U-18 and U-20 selections and we will do everything we can to try and obtain the best possible result.”
