A reader sent in these photos of works in Sir Arturo Mercieca Street in Sliema, which are eyebrow-raising at so many levels that it is hard to know where to start.

The most obvious is the blatant disregard for safety, but also questionable is the fact that demolition works are taking place at all.

The street is on a list of roads for which demolition works have been banned for the summer months – but the reader said she was told that the building was in “such a dangerous state” that an exemption was granted.

“It is an absolute disgrace and the construction company and the owners of the site should be held accountable – and not simply when an accident happens,” she said.

OHSA officials were on site shortly after the report was filed and stopped the works, pending investigations.
