A new film showing in competition at the Valletta Film Festival today is the 2016 Montenegro production The Black Pin.

Directed and written by Ivan Marinovic, the comedy drama tells the story of Petar (Peter), a misanthropic orthodox priest who returns to his idyllic Montenegrin peninsula to nurse his demented mother.

All he wants is a moment of peace but he becomes an obstacle to a large property sale in his seaside parish. And the group of colourful but also vengeful villagers decide to chase him away. They stir up the rest of the superstitious villagers, making them believe that Petar is the cause of all troubles on the peninsula.

The film stars Nikola Ristanovski as the main protagonist, Petar. It is screening at Pjazza Teatru Rjal at 9pm.

The Masters of Cinema category features the 1991 French film Delicatessen, by Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet. The film revolves around a butcher who owns a run-down apartment building in post-apocalyptic France. The building is in constant need of a handyman, because Clapet routinely butchers them and sells them as food. The latest in the long ling of disposable workers is Louison, a former circus clown desperate for work and lodging. But this time Clapet’s plan hits a snag when his young daughter falls head over heels for the lovable Louison.

The film is showing at St George’s Square at 9pm.
