Somebody must have miscalculated the size of his rubbish when he took it out to the bins in Tower Street, Mosta, yesterday.

A complete sitting room set was dumped on a traffic island on top of a pile of black rubbish bags alongside small rubbish bins. A number of black bulbs also ended up dumped there.

The pile was still there this morning, much to the disgust of neighbours.

A spokeswoman for Mosta council condemned the dumping, saying this was unfortunately not a rare occurrence despite the substantial amount of money the council spends on a bulky refuse service.

"The only thing people need to do is phone us, and we will give them a date when the bulky refuse service can pick up their items free of charge," she said.

She lamented of a similar problem at Ruzar Briffa Street, where people are consistently dumping waste despite the council's best efforts - including visits to the site by council officials during the night.
