Forward Lars Stindl feels Germany’s young team are well equipped to deal with the experienced threat of Copa America champions Chile when they go head to head for the Confederations Cup Group B clash in Kazan.

German coach Joachim Loew has taken a squad to Russia with an average age of 24 years and four months, which is the youngest of all eight competing nations.

La Roja, meanwhile, are made up of the tournament’s oldest players with an average age of just over 29, including the likes of Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Stindl made his senior international debut for Die Mannschaft against Denmark in a friendly earlier this month.

The 28-year-old netted his first goal when he opened the scoring in the 3-2 win over Australia in Sochi and believes the current crop of German talent have what it takes to get another positive result against the South Americans today.

“It (age) is a fact, but it won’t play a big role. We have got a young team, but we have prepared intensively for the match and want to do well,” Stindl said.

“Chile perhaps have a player or two amongst their ranks who have a lot of experience playing in tournaments, however I see us well equipped to deal with them.

“We are eager to play against such a strong team in a tournament and potentially beat them.”

Stindl is relishing the opportunity to stake his claim for a regular place in the world champions’ squad, with Loew’s side currently five points clear of Northern Ireland at the top of European Qualifying Group C as they bid to return to Russia to defend their title next summer.

“Everything that I have been involved in after the end of the season is a bonus for me. I was really happy to have been called up, and now I’ve received my playing time and scored too,” he said.

“I am so happy with how things are going at the moment, but all that matters now is the next game.

“We want to work hard and have a successful outing in order to potentially do something special here in Russia.”
