Floriana have strengthened their defensive department with the signing of James Baldacchino.

The 20-year-old centre back has been training with the Greens for the past week and has left a very good impression during a friendly against Hibernians on Saturday when he scored the only goal of the game.

Floriana have moved quickly to secure the services of the former Wollongong Wolves player who has put pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Baldacchino, who a few weeks ago attended a short training camp with Malta U-21, is Floriana’s third signing in the close season.

Last week, the Greens signed Ghanaian winger Noel Nyason and Vladan Milosavljev, a Serbian central midfielder.

Sources have told Times of Malta that Baldacchino is likely to be Floriana’s last signing before they take on Red Star Belgrade in the first qualifying round of the Europa League next week.

Llywelyn Cremona is set to part ways with Valletta after the young midfielder turned down a contract offer from the Citizens.

The 22-year-old has struggled to gain some playing time in the last couple of seasons and has decided to seek pastures new with Birkirkara reportedly ready to offer him a contract.

Valletta have now stepped up their pursuit to fill Cremona’s void and are currently in talks to sign a Serbian midfielder.

City are hopeful of wrapping up a deal in time ahead of the Europa League first qualifying round tie against Folgore, of San Marino.

Elsewhere, Ħamrun Spartans have signed goalkeeper Steve Sultana.

The former U-21 goalkeeper, who last season was on the books of Xewkija Tigers, has agreed to return to the BOV Premier League and has signed a two-year contract.

Despite, Sultana’s arrival the Spartans are still looking for another goalkeeper and are showing strong interest in Matthew Calleja Cremona, of Pembroke Athleta.

Birkirkara continued to bolster their squad with young Maltese talent when they wrapped up a deal for wing back Brandon Muscat.

The 22-year-old, who last season was on the books of Tarxien Rainbows before moving on loan to Mqabba, has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.
