TENNIS: France’s Lucas Pouille (picture) came from behind to claim his second title of the year with victory over Feliciano Lopez in the Mercedes Cup final in Stuttgart. The world number 16 hit 29 aces on his way to a 4-6 7-6 6-4 victory, which also marked his third tournament success since last September. The match was tight throughout but wildcard Pouille closed out in style with an ace. The 23-year-old said on atpworldtour.com: "I think I took a little bit more of the opportunities than him. "He had some break points and didn't make them, and I had only one or two and I made them. So I think that made the difference."

BOXING: Former UFC fighter turned boxer Tim Hague has died after being knocked out in a bout on Friday night. The 34-year-old was knocked down five times in the first two rounds before his fight against fellow Canadian Adam Braidwood in Edmonton was stopped. Hague walked out of the ring under his own steam but was then taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

GOLF:Canadian Brooke Henderson tamed strong winds to break out of a logjam and surge to a two-stroke victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan on Sunday. Henderson displayed a mix of power and precision to card a bogey-free final round of three-under 66 on the Blythfield Country Club course, which played to a par of 69 over the weekend due to flooding on the third hole. “I played really steady golf. It’s cool to be able to make those putts under pressure,” Henderson told Golf Channel.

CRICKET: Cricket South Africa launched its new T20 Global League in London yesterday, announcing the host cities and owners of the eight teams ahead of the player draft on Aug. 19. The owners include film actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan, who also has a stake in the Indian Premier League side Kolkata Knight Riders, and the GMR Group, who own the Delhi Daredevils. The competition, hoping to emulate the success of competitions such as the IPL and Australia’s Big Bash, is set to start in November, with the final to be played on Dec. 16.

RUGBY UNION: Centre Jesse Kriel has been passed fit to play for South Africa in the third and final test against France in Johannesburg on Saturday, but loose-forward Oupa Mohoje is set to miss out. Kriel has recovered from a concussion sustained in the first test on June 10 and team doctor Konrad von Hagen told reporters on Monday that he was on course to play, if selected by coach Allister Coetzee. If Kriel does return at outside centre, it will mean Lionel Mapoe drops out of the team, though the former is also able to play fullback and wing.
