Carlo Ancelotti failed to support Robert Lewandowski in his bid to finish ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Bundesliga top-scorer, his agent said yesterday.

Lewandowski, 28, racked up his second successive 30-goal campaign at Bayern, taking his tally to 77 goals in 96 league appearances for the Bundesliga champions.

However, the Poland international failed to score in Bayern’s 4-1 win over Freiburg on the final day of the season, which enabled Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang to pip him by a solitary goal, scoring twice against Werder Bremen to win kicker magazine’s prestigious Torjagerkanone.

“Robert told me there was no support from the coach or an appeal to support him in the final game to become top scorer,” Maik Barthel, Lewandowski’s agent, told kicker. “He was really disappointed, like I have never experienced before.”

Barthel added his client felt especially let down, when he played through the pain barrier after suffering a shoulder injury against his former club Dortmund in April.

Robert Lewandowski scored 30 Bundesliga goals but was unable to retain his top goalscorer title.

Lewandowski missed the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid in Munich due to injury, but returned for the second leg in Madrid. Lewandowski was replaced just before the end of normal time as Bayern were beaten by the eventual winners in extra time.

“Robert hoped the team and the coach would proactively support him to win the Torjagerkanone,” Barthel said.

Earlier this month, Lewand-owski said losing his top scorer’s crown had “hurt”, adding: “I wasn’t completely satisfied with the way my team helped me. Immediately after the last game, I was angry and disappointed with my team. That was the feeling I had.”
