The Kepler space telescope has discovered 219 new potential planets outside the solar system, 10 of which could be habitable, Nasa said today.

Scientists at Nasa's Ames Research Center in California outlined the details of their findings on Monday.

Nasa says 10 of the 219 new planet candidates are similar in size to Earth and orbit in their star's habitable zone.
