The recent tragic death of a motorcyclist on the Mrieħel by-pass is a sad reminder that nothing has as yet been done to deal with the very dangerous arrangement whereby traffic has to cut cross a dual-carriageway on its way to the Mrieħel industrial estate.
An expensive overhead bridge has recently been constructed over the by-pass for the safety of a few pedestrians but no consideration has been given to the safety of hundreds of vehicle occupants that use this busy road daily. Perhaps traffic lights controlling both a zebra-crossing and the traffic cutting across the dual-carriage would have been an effective and cheaper solution to both dangers to life and limb.
Presently only an expensive solution to one of the dangers has been carried out. Could the rushed construction of the pedestrian bridge, shortly before the election, have been another politically motivated move?
