Nationalist Party leader Simon Busuttil was quoted as saying that Marthese Portelli vacated her parliamentary seat in the 13th district so that for the first time ever Gozo would have four PN MPs.

This is not correct because on two other occasions Gozo in fact had four PN MPs elected.

In 1921, all four Gozo seats were filled by candidates from Enrico Mizzi’s Partito Democratico Nazionalista, the forerunner of the Nationalist Party, which in 1926 merged with the Unione Politica Maltese to form the Nationalist Party as we know it today.

Again, in 1966 the Nationalist Party, this time led by George Borg Olivier, elected four of the five Gozo MPs.

In both cases all four MPs were elected in their own right.
