I refer to the article by veterinary surgeon Martin Debattista entitled ‘Hock injuries’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, May 28). The author describes how an English pointer was hit by a car after being left off the leash on Manoel Island.

According to the law, dogs are to be kept on a leash in public places. However, it is very common while walking in the country to be harassed by dogs not on a leash.

I reported this matter once to the police, who told me to give them the name and address of the owner of the dogs that had harassed me so that they will go and speak to the owner.
