A Bachelor of Music (Hons) has been launched by the University’s Department of Music Studies for students wishing to pursue a professional career in music. The course, which starts in October, differs from its existing BA as it is completely dedicated to music.

The first year of the course provides students with a foundation in musical knowledge and skills. In the second and final years, students follow pathways in either performance, composition or musicology and ethnomusicology.

In the final year, students write and present a dissertation.

The programme also includes a placement to enable students to experience work in the cultural sector, particularly in the music business.

Students will develop a wide range of transferable skills, including communication, interpersonal skills, creative thinking, teamwork, leadership, planning, time-management and problem-solving.
