Two migrant women and a man were airlifted to Malta for urgent medical treatment earlier today.

The three were hoisted onto an AFM helicopter from a vessel employed on migration duties by the EU. The rescue was made after a request for assistance by the Italian authorities, the AFM said in a four-line statement.

It did not mention the nationality of the migrants, the place where the rescue took place and the vessel they were picked up from.
