Speaker Anglu Farrugia and Azeri Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov highlighted strong bilateral relations between the two countries that had been enhanced by frequent high-level meetings in the course of a meeting today.
Mr Mammadyarov paid Dr Farrugia a courtesy call as part of his three-day official visit to Malta.
The two dignitaries spoke about Malta’s Presidency of the Council of the EU, particularly the various conferences organised under the parliamentary dimension of the EU Council Presidency.
They referred to the co-operation between the parliamentary delegations of the two countries in international fora, as well as the Parliamentary Friendship Group, and discussed the outcome of Brexit and the future of the European Union.
Minister Mammadyarov was accompanied by the vice-president of Azerbaijan's national oil company Socar, Elshad Nasirov; Azerbaijan ambassador Mammad Ahmadzada; Head of the division in the First European Department of Azeri Foreign Affairs Ministry, Anar Ismayil; and Third Secretary at the Azerbaijan embassy in Rome, Elmar Baghirov.
