A big drug consignment seized by the police in 2012 was intended for the owner of a chicken farm in Siġġiewi, a court was told today.

Jurors were hearing evidence in the trial of Kingsley Wilcox, a 35-year-old Nigerian-born man accused of having conspired to import and traffic cocaine.

Inspector Herman Mula named Angelo Bilocca as the recipient of the imported cocaine. Following a controlled delivery in 2012, Mr Bilocca and his partner had been arrested and charged with their involvement in the drug-trafficking conspiracy,

Inspector Mula recalled how Mr Wilcox had told investigators that he was supposed to collect a consignment of drugs from a Spanish man and pass it on to “another man who lived in a farmhouse in Siġġiewi."

Wilcox was arrested upon arrival at Malta International Airport in October 2012. Although no drugs were found on his person, an analysis of the data from his mobile phone indicated that he was planning to meet a Spanish man who was carrying the 1.085kg of cocaine in a suitcase. The drugs are believed to have a street value of over €86,000.

When police raided the Paceville hotel room occupied by Jose Manuel Domingo Benito, who had also just arrived in Malta from Valencia, they found the drugs stashed in compartments in the man's suitcase, the witness explained.

During his interrogation, the accused had told the police that the cocaine was meant to be collected from his Spanish conspirator, in exchange for €1,500 and “had to be delivered to Angelo Bilocca, who lived in a farmhouse in Siggiewi.”

Another African man, John Majinbol who was allegedly involved in the plot and worked in tandem with Mr Bilocca, had been in contact with Mr Wilcox in order to arrange the delivery of the drugs, Inspector Mula concluded.

The trial continues.

The trial is presided by Madame Justice Edwina Grima.

Lawyers Nadia Attard and Kristina Debattista from the Attorney General's office are prosecuting.

Mr.Wilcox is conducting his own defence.
