On the occasion of the sesquicentenary of Msida parish and the 25th anniversary of the External Festivities Group of Msida, solemn Mass was concelebrated by Archbishop Emeritus Paul Cremona together with Msida parish priest Norman Zammit, clergy and representatives from nearby parishes. President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and her husband Edgar were also invited.

At the end of Mass, Fr Zammit thanked the President for her presence and members of the group for their dedication to­wards the feast. Commemorative plaques were presented to Mrs Coleiro Preca, Mgr Cremona, Fr Zammit and the clergy, to the mayor and council, the local band club and the fireworks group’s representatives. Then President then presented certificates and mementos to members of the festivities group.

In her speech, she spoke about the importance of the parish when it came to strengthening the family.

She also congratulated the ex­ter­nal festivities group on its 25th anniversary. A €500 cheque was presented to her in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund.

Dingli’s Regina Coeli parish choir and orchestra also took part in the celebration, conducted by Mro James Chappell, who was also presented with a memento. He composed a new hymn for the occasion, written by Fr Alfred Camilleri.
