A talk entitled Connecting with Contemporary Music is being delivered by Mariella Cassar-Cordina and Federico Gozzelino as part of the Gualitana festival tomorrow.

This is the third talk in the TALK re u series, an innovative feature of this year’s festival. It will preceed Wednesday’s Duende: Gozzelino Meets Garcia Lorca featuring Gozzelino’s music which was inspired by 11 poems by Federico Garcia Lorca.

Cassar-Cordina is a composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music and an educator. She holds a Bachelor Degree in music education and a post-graduate diploma in administration and management from the University of Malta. In 2005, she was awarded the M. Phil (Music) from the Mediterranean Institute at the University of Malta.

Having been a regular student of Maltese composer Charles Camilleri, she decided to further her studies at Falmouth University incorporating Dartington College of Arts, the UK, where she obtained a doctorate degree in music composition.

Gozzelino was born in Vercelli in Piedmont, north Italy. A graduate in psychology, he studied piano and score reading at the A. Vivaldi Conservatory in Alessandria. He studied composition and harmony both in Vercelli and in Alessandria. As a composer, he has written and published numerous works for piano, string quartets and orchestra, as well as chamber music and opera.
