Discount supermarket chain Lidl is to establish a regional distribution centre in Malta, Economy Minister Chris Cardona said this evening.

Dr Cardona said Malta Enterprise and Malta Industrial Parks had struck a deal with the German retailer which would lead to the creation of more than 120 jobs and boost local exports.

Within three years, Lidl will increase the value of products it purchased from Maltese manufacturers from the current €3 million to  €22 million, Dr Cardona claimed in the course of a Gvern Li Jisma event, with most of these products destined for export.

The minister said that more than 20 foreign investment projects had been approved in the past 15 months alone.
