The Malta police Cyber Crime Unit of the Malta police are taking part in an operation launched in several EU states today against people using the internet to spread material showing children being abused.

The police said in a statement that through this initiative, people using peer-to-peer networks started receiving a message informing them that it was a crime for a person to use the internet to download material which showed children being abused.

The videos and photos with these messages are being spread through computers operated by the police all around Europe.

In the past years, several investigations were carried out leading to the arrest, investigation and arraignment of people spreading such material.

The operation is being carried out with the support of Europol.
