There were another two close games in the MSV Life Women’s League, further confirmation that there is little difference between all sides this season.

With leaders Gżira Athleta not in action last weekend, Depiro succumbed to their third defeat in the league, losing with a solitary basket difference against an energetic Starlites side, the latter playing their first league game.

The game was decided in the final moments with a brace of Josephine Grima free-throws ascertaining Starlites’ victory.

Depiro were left to rue a number of missed free-throws in the last quarter.

In the other match, reigning champions Caffe Moak Luxol were handed their first league defeat by Hibernians who, for their part, were registering their first league victory.

Hibs were quick to open a considerable early lead at 21-7 and later 46-24 in the third quarter.

Luxol attempted a late comeback with a 12-0 run, mostly through Lindsay Lessard, but time was in Hibs’ favour as they held on and Trudy Armstead’s final hoops assured them the win.

Standings
Gżira Athleta 4; Caffe Moak Luxol, Hibernians, Depiro 3; Starlites  2.
