An exhibition of nine paintings of Maltese and Gozitan landscapes executed by British artist Edward Lear in the 1860s is being held at Heritage Malta’s Gozo Area Office in the Citadel to mark the 150th anniversary of the famous artist’s stay in Gozo. The paintings – mostly watercolours – are some of over 80 drawings and watercolours that the famous artist is known to have produced during his one-week sojourn in Gozo in March 1866. Four of the landscapes are in the national collection, including a drawing of Ħagar Qim temples recently acquired by Heritage Malta that is being exhibited for the first time. The exhibition was opened by Heritage Malta CEO Kenneth Gambin, and is curated by Nicoline Sagona, manager of the Gozo museums and sites. The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm, and on Saturdays from 8am to noon until January 28.
