The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (Mcast) has launched an online learning management system including over 200 modules in a broad range of subjects, including ICT, creative arts, mechanical, electrical and electronics engineering and community services. Each module counts for six ECTS and they can all be accessed online free of charge by anyone.

The online learning system was developed as a result of a €7 million European Social Fund (ESF) project entitled ‘Increasing Accessibility, Flexibility and Innovation to Mcast Lifelong Learning Course Offer’ that was 85 per cent co-funded through the ESF 2007-2013 and 15 per cent from national funds.

In the near future the system may also be used by people interested in acquiring an accredited certification through face-to-face tutorials and formal assessment at Mcast. This mode of studying will be particularly suited for people already in employment who would like to consolidate their skills and career prospects.

It will also be possible to combine this mode of studying with the process of Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning, which was also developed by the same ESF project.
