Lora CaruanaEvery week, GreenPak representatives visit households that are taking part in the cooperative’s recycling system, and present residents with reusable cloth bags filled with free gifts. These range from food, beauty products, toiletries, stationery, green plastic bags and other products provided by GreenPak Coop Society members.
The initiative is part of a campaign called Irriċikla u Irbaħ ma’ GreenPak (Recycle and Win with GreenPak). Launched in 2013 in the localities serviced by GreenPak, the campaign sees an average of 100 residents rewarded each month.
Earlier this month, Lora Caruana from Fgura became the 4,000th resident to win free gifts in the campaign. Photos of other winners may be viewed on the coop’s Facebook page.
Charlene Mercieca Magro, education officer at GreenPak, said: “Besides serving as a ‘thank you’ to green conscious residents, it also serves to grab the attention of residents who either don’t recycle regularly or need a little extra motivation to recycle as much as they can. By rewarding those who recycle responsibly and correctly, we hope that the gift bag will serve as an encouragement for others to get involved and help maintain a cleaner environment,” she added.
October also saw the cooperative distribute the fifteen millionth free green recycling bag. “This clearly signals GreenPak’s ongoing commitment to make it as easy as possible for residents to recycle,” added Ms Mercieca Magro.
