The European Foundation for Support of Culture presents the first edition of the Malta International Piano Festival running until October 31.

The festival consists of master classes with famous professors from well-known conservatoires in Spain, Italy, Russia, Belgium and Germany, a piano competition and concerts.

The competition, divided into three age groups, will take place from Friday to Sunday. The prizes vary and include free participation in international festivals in Malta and Germany, remuneration packages and a grand-prix.

The concerts being held are as follows:

Tomorrow, a lunchtime concert with the festival participants will take place at noon at the St Francis Oratory on Republic Street, Valletta. In the evening at 7pm, a concert will follow at St Patrick’s church in Sliema.

The Robert Samut Hall in Floriana will host two concerts, both at 7pm: Chinese pianist Chenxi Li will perform on Thursday, while Belgian pianist Philippe Raskin will perform on Friday.

On Saturday, Vincenzo Balzani from Italy will perform at St Patrick’s church in Sliema, at 7pm.

The Russian Centre for Science and Culture on Merchants Street in Valletta will host two concerts. Festival participants take to the stage on Sunday at 4pm, whereas a gala concert with the winners followed by the awards ceremony will be held the following day at 7pm.
