The Malta Communications Authority (MCA) is partnering with Start-up Genome, authors of the 2015 Global Start-up Ecosystem Ranking (GSER), to carry out an international benchmarking exercise on the status of Malta’s start-up ecosystem.

The exercise will contribute data to the 2016 GSER and will provide an insight on the level of activity by start-ups in Malta. The MCA is inviting all Malta-based start-ups to participate in this study and help put Malta on the global map. The study defines start-ups as businesses that are developing or executing a repeatable and scalable business model.

Last year’s exercise involved the participation of more than 60 international partners, including CrunchBase

This study builds on the success of the 2015 GSER, which quickly became one of the most popular publications on tech ecosystems to date. The report directly reached more than 150,000 global investors, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders, and more than one million leaders through quotes in 100 articles across global media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, The Economist, The Financial Times and Bloomberg. Last year’s exercise involved the participation of more than 60 international partners, including CrunchBase and the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN).

Start-ups are being invited to participate in the 2016 GSER by completing an online survey at: http://goo.gl/KQ31xp. The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. The data collected through this exercise will remain confidential. Data collection will run until the end of October 2016 and publication of the 2016 GSER report is expected in January 2017.

Studies such as the GSER generate invaluable intelligence to guide decisions amongst investors, entrepreneurs and international start-up talent, as well as to inform policy. Whilst participation is not obligatory, the MCA strongly encourages all start-ups to contribute to this study, not only to provide such intelligence, but also to raise the profile of Malta’s start-up ecosystem internationally.
