Mascherano: Javier Mascherano has signed his contract extension at Barcelona, having agreed a deal in July, with Neymar set to follow suit later this week. Argentina defender Mascherano, who joined Barca from Liverpool just over six years ago, has committed until June 2019. The 32-year-old had been linked with a move away from the Nou Camp this summer, with strong rumours of a transfer to Juventus.

Christensen: Borussia M’gladbach have been hit by a further injury blow ahead of their Champions League clash with Celtic. Denmark centre-back Andreas Christensen has been ruled out of tomorrow’s encounter in Glasgow after picking up a gluteal muscle injury during a goalless draw with Hamburg on Saturday. The 20-year-old on-loan Chelsea defender has played 11 out of 12 games for Gladbach this season.

Mendy: Nampalys Mendy will be missing for Leicester’s home Champions League Group G clash with FC Copenhagen today after going under the knife to clear up some bone in his ankle and is expected to be out for another month. The midfielder has been sidelined since August after suffering an ankle injury and has made just two appearances after joining the club from Nice in the summer.

MLS play-offs: DC United and Montreal Impact booked their place in the MLS play-offs on the penultimate weekend of the regular season. United moved up to fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 3-1 win over New York City FC, which was inspired by goals from Patrick Mullins, Bobby Boswell and Rob Vincent. Montreal also secured a berth despite conceding a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Canadian rivals Toronto FC. Ignacio Piatti’s double had twice put them in front, but Tosaint Ricketts levelled in the 86th minute to restrict Impact to a point.

Peres: Roma will be without Bruno Peres for the next two weeks after the Brazilian picked up a thigh injury in training on Friday, the Serie A club said yesterday. Peres did not feature in Roma’s 3-1 defeat to Napoli on Saturday as Juan Jesus filled in for his countryman at left-back. “Bruno Peres today underwent tests that showed a grade-one injury to his pectineus muscle in his right adductor,” a club statement said. Roma are currently second in the standings, two points adrift of leaders Juventus.

In Italy: Serie B – Trapani vs Ternana 2-2. Lega Pro (Group B) – Calcio Padova vs Reggiana 2-0.

Primera Liga: Eibar vs Osasuna 2-3.
