Updated 4.10pm - Added marine biologist comments

A video of a blue shark being fed off Malta has been uploaded online.

Richard Vella, from Sannat, who shot the video of himself feeding the shark said it was taken "well off" Malta's coast.

Marine biologist Alan Deidun told Times of Malta that the shark species used to be a common sight in local waters - so much so that the species has a Maltese name, Ħuta kaħla.

But their numbers plummeted over the past decade due to deliberate targeting by fishermen and them being caught in by-catch.

"Unfortunately they are a regular occurrence at the fish market," Dr Deidun said.
