The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) has been following attentively the developments of the Volkswagen emissions case from the very beginning. It has also been monitoring the actions Volkswagen Malta was taking regarding this case. Simultaneaously, the authority has been paying attention to the European Commission’s actions. Some time ago the Commission requested Member States to submit information on the actions taken at national level regarding this particular case.

The MCCAA believes there should be co-ordinated action among all EU Member States as this case affects the European Single Market as a whole. Despite this, the authority is still taking into consideration the poss-ibility to initiate investigations and to institute administrative proceedings as stipulated in the Consumer Affairs Act.

This also in light of the legal dispositions prohibiting unfair commercial practices.
