Like all great things, Pink October first started bubbling up as a mere idea, in the minds of JPA’s creatives, not very long ago. Given that breast cancer affects so many women it was decided that something should be done to help fight it. It was a simple question with a very simple answer. And, just like that, in 2013, the first national campaign of Pink October was born.

Together with the partners The Marigold Foundation, Action for Breast Cancer and Europa Donna, JPA set out to bring the nation together, to increase awareness, educate people, encourage everyone (not just women!) to lead healthy lifestyles and go get checked, as well as raise funds in aid of breast cancer research and equipment.

Now in its third year running, Pink October has already raised €150,000, got thousands of people together in the fight against breast cancer and bought the Faxitron Corevision system at Mater Dei Hospital.

This year with everyone’s help, Pink October will be bigger, better and more effective than ever before, and most importantly, will continue to help save people’s lives. One of the main events of Pink October is the Global Capital Plc Art Auction and Exhibition. By participating in this the public can help JPA and its partners to reach the goal of raising €90,000.

Sponsored by Global Capital plc this year’s Pink October Art Auction & Exhibition brought together more artists and talent making this event an utterly magical art exposition.

The artists are not just the people who generously donated their exclusive artworks, but also other professionals involved in the creation of this experience – the venue, the attendees, the arrangement, the food, the music and every little detail planned for this auction and exhibition, which will definitely shape it into one of Malta’s most prestigious and creative events.

The exhibition and auction will consist of 41 artworks by Maltese and foreign artists, with the aim of raising funds for Pink October. It is open to the public online from until Friday and at Auberge de Castille on Wednesday and Thursday between 4 pm and 7pm, as well as during Notte Bianca on Saturday.

People are encouraged to support Pink October and bid on their favourite artwork online via www.pinkoctober.support/artauction or manually or by filling in the bidding form provided and placing it in the Silent Auction Box at Castille on Friday.

The Global Capital plc Pink October Art Exhibition and Auction will be curated by Justine Balzan Demajo, who is a freelance art restorer and curator for contemporary art exhibits in Malta. Justine gained many years of experience in the field of restoration, working alongside mentor and Caravaggio specialist, Roberta Lapucci, as well as assisting Din L-Art Ħelwa with the restoration of Our Lady of Victories church in Valletta.

Justine is also the director and presenter of the new cultural television series, Culture Vulture, starting on TVM next month.

While helping to raise funds and creating awareness for such an important cause like breast cancer, Justine takes the opportunity to simultaneously give exposure to young and upcoming artists, and demonstrate to the public the contemporary artists that Malta has to offer.
