The next international commitment for a Maltese senior representative team will be in the Champions League Qualification Round I, to be played at the National Pool between September 30 and October 2.

The Maltese side, as usual playing under the name of Valletta (Malta), will face Steaua Buc-harest (Romania), KS Ankonia Szczecin (Poland) and PVK Jadran (Montenegro) in Group C.

It is understood that the team will be an experimental one as some key players will be absent. One of them is Steve Camilleri who is currently in full training with CC Ortigia ahead of the Italian Serie A1 season.

The squad, under the charge of national team coach Karl Izzo, will be announced shortly.

Izzo is expected to promote several young players who represented Malta at the European Under-19 Championship in the Netherlands earlier this month.

It is interesting to note that an acquaintance of Maltese waterpolo and one of the best exponents of the game to emerge from Montenegro, Vladimir Gojkovic, will be in charge of PVK Jadran.

In 2011, this versatile player, who is also head coach of his country’s senior national team, played for Neptunes.
