Founded in the early 1800s by Fortunato Ellul, things have come a long way for the family business. The Ellul generation lives on through Matthew and Andrew, sons of the late Joseph Ellul.

Customers at Ellul Wine’s and Spirits do not only visit this charming shop just to buy some alcohol, but because they know that Ellul Wines & Spirits is the one stop shop that caters for all their needs, in terms of wine, spirits and more.

Both brothers are very much into wine and pairing wine with food. This passion has in fact driven them to share it with their clientele.

“We want to share our knowledge on wine with our customers. We have over 500 different bottles of wine at our shop. Each bottle is chosen by us with the aim of making a customer happy,” says Andrew, the youngest of the two brothers.

This love Matthew and Andrew have for wine has also brought about the idea of hosting wine masterclasses.

“The only way to learn more about wine is to taste more of it. This is the reason why we are so keen on our Master classes.

“We want to share our knowledge and passion which we have inherited from our ancestors. The feedback is fantastic, and we enjoy seeing our customers learn more about wines,” says Matthew, who is presently pursuing his WSET diploma in wines and spirits.

These events are quickly sold-out. These masterclasses are a learning curve to those attending on how to taste and appreciate different wines from different regions.

These gatherings are a great way to spend an enjoyable couple of hours with old or new friends – the crowd is limited and bookings are recommended.

This year, the Ellul brothers hosted six masterclasses at their exquisite shop in Santa Lucia Street. All events were sold out within days from being launched. During these events different wines from different regions were explored including: Amarone della Valpolicella, Brunello di Montalcino, the reds of Bordeaux, and whites such as: Chardonnay, Riesling and Fraciacorta.

After the summer lull, these wine masterclasses will return in October.
