GO has doubled the data capacity of its international submarine cables following a major upgrade, the company announced today.

The upgrade means that the company’s submarine cables now carry twice the quantity of optical wavelengths that they did this time last year.

With demand for data expected to increase exponentially over the coming years, the company said the upgrades were intended to meet future demand from both domestic and business customers.

In a statement announcing the upgrade, the company boasted that it "remains the only operator in Malta to have invested in two separate international submarine cable links".

Chief commercial officer Kurt Camilleri said the company's capacity and reliability would receive a further boost thanks to the upgrade.

"As a company we remain committed to giving our customers the best possible service today, and to making the investments needed to ensure Malta has the infrastructure in place to make the most of an exciting future," he said.
