Flughafen Wien AG, including its strategic foreign investments in Malta Airport and Kosice Airport, reports a stable passenger development in June, showing a slight rise of 0.1 per cent from the comparable level in June 2015 to 2.7 million passengers.

The total number of passengers handled by the airports from January to June was up 2.1 per cent to 12.9 million travellers.

The total number of passengers handled at the Vienna Airport fell 1.0 per cent from the prior-year month to 2,148,547 travellers. The number of local passengers climbed 1.4 per cent, whereas transfer passenger volume was down 6.5 per cent. The decrease can be mainly attributed to capacity reductions on the part of the airlines, the consequences of the terrorist attacks in Brussels as well as the crisis situations in Russia, Turkey and North Africa.

In June, the number of flight movements declined by 1.4 per cent from June 2015. Vienna Airport showed substantial growth in air cargo volume, which rose 11.9 per cent from the previous year.

The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport who flew to Western European destinations increased slightly, rising by 0.5 per cent. In contrast, passenger volume to Eastern Europe was down 2.0 per cent in a year-on-year comparison.

The number of passengers travelling to the Far East climbed by 3.5 per cent in June, whereas passenger volume to the Middle East showed a drop of 6.1 per cent.

Passenger traffic to North America was up by 5.3 per cent, different from the 30.8 per cent decrease in the number of passengers flying to destinations in Africa.

There was a substantial rise of 6.8 per cent in passenger volume at Malta Airport in June, whereas Kosice Airport reported a drop of 14.7 per cent.

Following the increase of the stake held by Flughafen Wien AG in Malta Airport at the end of March, the strategic investment is fully consolidated in the interim consolidated financial statements of the Flughafen Wien Group beginning at the end of the first quarter of 2016. For this reason, the entire traffic results for Flughafen Wien AG and its foreign strategic investments have been included in the monthly reports since April 2016.

The traffic results for Vienna Airport correspond to the comparable values of the monthly announcements of traffic results up to and including the month of March 2016.
