Updated 2.28pm with mayor's reaction - A video of Qawra Point pool warning bathers about a crumbling passageway and massive underwater spike has gone viral.

In the video, Raniero Borg dons a pair of goggles and takes his camera underwater to show viewers the dangers bathers face every time their feet touch the ground along the submerged passage.

Parts of the passage are on the verge of crumbling, with stones partially dislodged.

Perhaps most worrying to bathers and parents of children who bathe in the pool is the massive three-inch spike Mr Borg points out.

As he is filming, three bathers walk along the passageway. Their feet miss the spike my mere inches.

"Can you imagine stepping on this while walking through the passage?" Mr Borg asks in the video.

The video goes on to state: "This pool is very popular for children, however it is very dangerous. You would think that your children are safe playing here but they won't [sic]. All this takes is for someone to arrange it properly."

The video, which Mr Borg uploaded on Sunday, already has 10,000 views on YouTube and has been shared hundreds of times over Facebook.

In a reaction, St Paul's Bay mayor Graziella Galea said she only learnt of the danger when she saw the video and had never previously received reports about it.

She said she immediately informed the Malta Tourism Authority and the Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure about the danger.

The Authority told her that it would be following up the matter, but that the sea had to be calm before divers could take action.
