Julia Scerri, from St Monica School, Gżira, and Kurt Micallef from St Margaret College Secondary School, Verdala, both placed second in the international Young Reporters for the Environment photography category, in the 11-14 and 15-18 age groups respectively. Scerri’s entry was entitled ‘Guilty conscience’ and Micallef’s was called ‘Returned to sender by the waves’. The programme aims to actively engage students in taking a stand on local environmental issues. Themes vary from the popular waste, water and transport issues to more challenging themes such as active aging and migration. Schools or individual students wishing to participate next year may e-mail YRE national coordinator Audrey Gauci at audrey.gauci@ilearn.edu.mt.
