The square in the village of San Lawrenz will play host to Swejjaq, an activity organised for the first time by the local council, on Sunday.

Swejjaq means ‘a small market’ in Maltese.

On Sunday mornings, the San Lawrenz Square, which has lately been renovated, will be transformed into a small market selling crops and other artisan food and products, between 8am and 1pm.

This Sunday, part of the square will also be dedicated to a vintage car and motorcycle exhibition. Football tournaments are being organised and traditional dance and music will entertain those attending.

Ta’ Seguna Folk Band will be playing live music using traditional musical instruments and the Schola Cantorum Jubilate will be giving a recital of various secular pieces by De Prez, Elgar, Chappell, Silvey, Rutter and Diemer at 11.30am.

There will also be two guided tours of the church, higlighting the paintings by Giuseppi Calì, Paul Camilleri Cauchi and other works by Abraham Gatt and others gems at the San Lawrenz parish church.

The local council has set up a Facebook page to be updated daily. The address is facebook.com/ swejjaqsanlawrenz

This activity is being organised with the support of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government, the Malta Tourism Authority and the Valletta 2018 Foundation.
