A Bacon Festival is to be held in Zejtun next month to raise funds for Dar Nazareth, which provides shelter for those who have no family or cannot live with their family.

Organisers 2 Minds Events and Fondazzjoni Nazareth of Zejtun said the event on Saturday, 9 July at Pjazza tas-Suq starts at 7pm.

Visitors will be able to sample many recipes with pork and bacon meat from different sellers.

There will be a a special theme game - Pig Race.

In a reaction, Mario Galea the shadow minister for animal welfare said that while he is a supporter of Dar Nazzareth, having a pigs race was unacceptable and amounted to animal cruelty. He said in a tweet that he would do his best to ensure that the race was not held.
