Hibernians Electrofix 52
Caffe Moak Luxol 40
(16-5, 15-10, 13-13, 8-12)

Hibs Electrofix are still in the running for the 2015-16 Women’s League after beating Caffe Moak Luxol in Sunday’s third match from the best-of-seven series.

Hibs are now trailing the champions 2-1 with the next match scheduled for tomorrow. They had pivot Elena Cassar back from suspension and with Christina Grima firing on all cylinders they took control right from the jump-ball and held the initiative throughout.

Luxol again had a rather slow start but this time they never recovered and were second best in most sectors, particularly underneath the boards.

Hibs opened strongly to build a 14-2 lead and extended their positive momentum to the second quarter for a 20-5 advantage.

Luxol improved but their efforts were still not enough as Cassar’s points allowed the Paolites to change ends enjoying a comfortable 31-15 lead.

One expected Luxol to react strongly after the interval. However, it was Hibs who continued to dictate matters (39-16), administering their lead wisely as the third quarter ended 44-28 in their favour.

It was only after Hibs had opened a 20-point gap (50-30) that Luxol finally started to apply some pressure on their opponents, potting nine points without reply.

But Luxol’s reaction came too late as the confident Hibs players already had victory in their bags to get back in contention in the final series.
