A notary ordered by the court to refund clients €24,500 had renounced his warrant last October, the Notarial Council said in a statement this morning.

Pierre Falzon failed to pass on €24,500 in stamp duties and taxes owed to the government. A court ordered him to refund the amount to his clients when the transfer of a property was never registered.

The Council is currently working with the Inland Revenue Department and Finance Ministry to design an online portal which notaries could use to make such payments securely and efficiently.

The portal is expected to come into force next year and would further enhance the efficiency and strengthen the transparency of the profession, the council said.
