It was a toss-up between The Clash and Queen but even though it seems to be pretty much a foregone conclusion that Premier Joe has done his electoral arithmetic and concluded that it's time for PanamaHats to be chucked over the side, there's still a bit of doubt, so the Clash won.

"Another One Bites the Dust" would have been my choice of headline had PanamaHats already been shown the door. He'd have been thereby inducted into Labour's Hall of Shame and he would have been in good (well, bad) company. Within the ranks of the Soldiers of Steel, they've got a convicted revenge-pornographer, a brace or more of corrupt facilitators of cozy commercial dealings, a couple of concealers of crimes and coverer-ups of nastiness, at least one pretty lousy driver and a range of of invisible and/or inept Ministers that gob-smacks even the casual observer.

You can add others (names not needed, just mention their crimes and defaults, to avoid a libel case) in the comments below.

But back to the Clash and the minor uncertainty of Konrad Mizzi standing not on the order of his going.

At one point, it looked as if the Unholy Trio were going to brazen it out. When Panamagate morphed into Panama Papers and the world - well, the bits of it that matter - started to resound with calls for assorted resignations, it became a case "of sooner or later" and now it's "sooner rather than later", probably just before the National Anti-Corruption Protest.

Perceived as preparing the ground, PanamaHats did a Schwarzeneger and told the assembled faithful, in between their standing ovations for him, that "he'll be back" in 2018. It can also be interpreted that what he meant was that he would still be around in 2018, challenging Premier Joe to dare to dump him, but the received wisdom as of Friday evening is that he's out, and he knows it.

A member of the Walking Dead, as it were.

People are basing their assumptions, pretty much, on what they read into that telling glance between Premier Joe and his other Deputy Leader, the one who has never been tarnished by New Zealand lamb roast garnished with a Panamanian salad. Having seen it, I'd be loath to bet the farm on it, but given that PanamaHats' position has been untenable from Day One, it's hardly feasible that he's going to be allowed to cling to his Ministerial position.

Whether this will be substituted by some form of well-iced bun, and whether he remains as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, remains to be seen.

If Konrad Mizzi is not removed from any position of influence within the Government, I don't see much point in him not being a Minister, because what's in a name?

And if he remains on as Deputy Leader of the party, they're still going to be lumbered with having a well muddied top dog.

And all of the above is quite apart from the fact that there's Premier Joe's Consiglieri to be dealt with, not to mention Premier Joe himself. It took him almost two months to do what he should have done in two flicks of a (New Zealand) lamb's tail and if he thinks that getting so tardily shot of Panamahats is going to turn him squeaky clean, then he really does need a reality check.

Which all means that Sunday's protest is still very necessary, because it's the only way these specimens are going to get a feel of what "we the people" want, which is to see the back of them.
