Hibs Electrofix and Caffe Moak Luxol are a game away from reaching the women’s MSV Life National League final after recording a second consecutive victory against Gżira Athleta and PAVI Depiro, respectively, in the best-of-five semi-finals series, last weekend.

Though Athleta offered a stronger challenge than in the series opener the week before, Hibs’ superiority came to the fore after the interval.

After sharing the exchanges in the first quarter of the match, which saw the Paola girls leading 12-10, Athleta conceded a 12-2 break but they hit back admirably to reduce the gap to 24-17 at the half-time break.

Hibs showed their true prowess in the third quarter as they gradually pulled away to build a comfortable 43-23 lead which they went on to defend successfully before sealing the 49-34 win.

Against Luxol, Depiro were still in contention until the final quarter but then their resistance collapsed allowing the champions to put the issue beyond doubt and win handsomely 87-49.

Depiro led in the first minutes of the match.

Luxol took their time to settle on court and when they started to play more confidently they notched 11 consecutive points to open a 30-18 lead as the second quarter got underway.

Depiro showed their fighting qualities before half-time as they narrowed the margin to 42-31.

The match continued to be a balanced affair after the break but Depiro’s hopes were dashed as the last quarter got underway.

A slick Luxol side potted 23 points without reply to edge closer to the championship decider.

Women’s SFs (Game 3): Thursday 18.15 Hibernians vs Athleta; 20.00 Luxol vs Depiro.
