The police have searched  the offices of Construct Furniture in connection with an inquiry into the death of 17-year-old employee Matthew Bartolo.

Sources told the Times of Malta the police were accompanied by court experts.

Mr Bartolo, from Kirkop, died last June 4 following an accident at Construct Furniture’s factory at Ħal Farruġ, in the limits of Luqa.

At the time of the incident it was reported that Bartolo was operating a woodworking machine used to manufacture doors. He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital suffering from grievous injuries but died shortly after he was admitted.

When contacted, a spokesman for Construct Furniture said such a police search was standard procedure.

The aim was for the police to compile any information considered relevant and preserve the evidence. It would have been “surprising” had this not happened, he said.

While the search at the Construct Furniture offices was in progress, the police simultaneously searched the offices of a person who works for the company.

Sources said that the victim’s parents had met the inquiring magistrate recently.
