The only Premier Class race on the card and the two semi-finals from the Assikura Championship for Gold Class trotters were the main attractions at the Marsa Racetrack, yesterday.

Sixteen horses took part in the Premier race.

Quetzal De Brix (Clint Vassallo) was the fastest at first, opening a small lead from Quad Censerie (Charles Farrugia) and P.A. Surprise (Lorraine Cunningham).

Quad Censerie (Charles Farrugia) then took the lead but with some 500m to go this horse ran out of steam and was overtaken once again by Quetzal De Brix which went ahead to register its first win of the season.

Quad Censerie was second ahead of Pronostic De Neige (Michael Axisa) and Ripsos De Fa (Ivan Bilocca).

The two semi-finals were held over a short distance of 2,140m. Ten horses qualified for the final stage.

In the first semi-final, Noel Baldacchino put Power To Be in front with a lap to go.

This Swedish trotter went un-challenged for most of the distance before securing its second win in a row, a length ahead of Magic Broline (Clint Vassallo).

Madrileno (Mario Fenech), Made In Hoff (Charles Camilleri) and Palazio Valterne (David Ellul) followed behind in that order.

A keen tussle between three trotters developed in the final straight of the second semi-final.

Swedish Royal In, under the guidance of one of its owners – Marco Debono – grabbed its second consecutive win of the season from Lover Roc (Jesmond Attard) and Quefi Des Caillons (Michael Ellul).

Qurieux Du Ponchet (Clint Vassallo) and Energitj (Carl Caruana) also progressed to the final.

Another meeting at the racetrack will be held on Friday evening.
